Kalla Beton Launches Lightweight Concrete Blocks and Instant Mort

PALU – Kalla Beton officially launched its lightweight concrete blocks and instant mortar products at Best Western Plus Coco Palu, Central Sulawesi, on Wednesday, June 5, 2024.

This product introduction was also combined with the implementation of a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program through a skill upgrading workshop for construction workers.

The launch was not just ceremonial—both products were demonstrated live in front of attendees, which included officials from the Central Sulawesi Provincial Government, Palu City Government, retailers and distributors, contractors, associations, and skilled laborers.

The audience showed great enthusiasm as Kalla Beton’s technical support team showcased the superior quality of these products by testing the adhesive strength of the instant mortar on the lightweight blocks. The bonding strength was evident within just two minutes.

Ali Syamsu Wairooy, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Kalla Beton, explained that Kalla Beton is a subsidiary of the KALLA Group specializing in the manufacture and supply of construction materials. Their products have already been used in several infrastructure projects handled by PT Bumi Karsa in Palu.

“We’ve been supplying ready-mix concrete, one of our key products, for projects here. Today, we’re introducing other products in our portfolio—lightweight concrete blocks and instant mortar. We hope they will be well received and contribute to the development of Palu and surrounding areas,” Ali said in a written statement.

He also noted that the lightweight blocks and mortar products had previously been launched in Kendari and Gorontalo. These solutions are designed to make residential and commercial building construction more efficient and effective.

Kalla Beton’s lightweight concrete blocks offer a range of advantages, including lighter weight, fire resistance, low water absorption, high compressive strength, sound insulation, precise dimensions, and improved earthquake resistance.

“Previously, people used traditional red bricks to build houses. Now, we’re offering a more efficient and effective construction solution. When using lightweight blocks and instant mortar, construction time is significantly reduced,” Ali added.

The instant mortar is a key innovation in the construction field. It is made from a cement base mixed with other materials such as silica sand, additives, and fillers. It functions as both an adhesive for red bricks and concrete blocks and as a wall finishing material.

Instant mortar is user-friendly and can be applied without the need for highly skilled labor. To support this, Kalla Beton includes clear usage instructions and water-mixing ratios on the packaging to assist customers.

Using instant mortar is significantly more efficient than mixing cement and sand manually.

In Palu, Kalla Beton’s lightweight concrete blocks are priced at IDR 1,300,000 per cubic meter. The blocks are of the Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) type, available in various sizes: 60x20x7.5 cm, 10 cm, 12.5 cm, 15 cm, and 20 cm to meet different customer needs.

As for instant mortar, the prices per sack are as follows: adhesive – IDR 120,000; plaster – IDR 110,000; skim coat – IDR 90,000; and acian (finishing coat) – IDR 125,000. The products are currently available in Palu at Jl. Cumi-Cumi, Lere Subdistrict, West Palu District.

Sales & Marketing Manager of Kalla Beton, Syatir, added that the company also held a construction skill-upgrading program as part of their CSR initiative during the product launch, with around 40 participants.

Similar training programs have previously been conducted in other cities, such as Makassar, Kendari, and Gorontalo.

“This training is aimed at educating local workers on the correct application of instant mortar when working with lightweight concrete blocks. We want local masons in Palu to continue improving their skills so they can compete with workers from outside the region, especially from Java,” Syatir concluded. (*)
